Episode Twelve:
A Legacy of Grace, Values, and Service Join us for an inspiring and deeply personal conversation with Mrs. Sharon Clark-Rowley, wife of the former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley. Known for her grace, poise, and quiet humility, Mrs. Clark-Rowley reflects on the values that have shaped her life and leadership. She shares how her parents, paternal grandmother, dedicated teachers, and her alma mater, Bishop Anstey High School, instilled in her the principles of honesty, integrity, respect, and service. Her upbringing, enriched by both the Catholic and Anglican traditions, provided a strong moral foundation that continues to guide her today. Mrs. Clark-Rowley also reveals a fascinating chapter of her life that many may not know. During part of her undergraduate studies in Barbados, she lived with her Aunt Carolyn, the wife of The Right Excellent Errol Barrow, Barbados' first Prime Minister. At the time, she could never have imagined that one day she, too, would serve alongside a Prime Minister, following a path remarkably similar to her aunt's. Today, Mrs. Clark-Rowley is committed to passing those enduring values on to her children, grandchildren, and the many young people whose lives she has the opportunity to influence. Her message is both simple and profound: "Never forget where you come from, but always strive to be the very best you can be." Don't miss this heartfelt conversation about family, faith, leadership, and the timeless values that shape lives and inspire generations.
Episode Eleven:
Breaking Barriers in STEM
The Caribbean has produced countless individuals who have gone on to make an extraordinary impact on the world, and Dr. Kalisa Villafana is undoubtedly one of those trailblazers.
Driven by a lifelong passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), Dr. Villafana has shattered barriers throughout her academic journey. She became the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Physics from Florida State University and only the 96th woman in the United States to receive a PhD in Physics—an achievement that speaks to both her brilliance and perseverance.
At the heart of Dr. Villafana's success is a simple but powerful belief: you can accomplish anything you truly believe is possible. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of self-belief, resilience, and purpose.
Her journey began with a teacher who recognized her potential while she was still in primary school. That same educator later taught her in secondary school and continued to encourage and challenge her, ultimately inspiring her to pursue a university education. It was a defining mentorship that helped shape the remarkable path she would follow.
Today, Dr. Villafana is paying that gift forward. Her mentee describes their relationship as "a match made in heaven," expressing heartfelt gratitude for Dr. Villafana's unwavering encouragement, high standards, and willingness to offer the "tough love" that helped her reach her academic goals.
Join us for this inspiring conversation as Dr. Kalisa Villafana reflects on the power of mentorship, the importance of representation in STEM, and how one person who believes in you can change the course of your life.
